A post for the female bosses, entrepreneurs, and creatives who rule the fashion scene. Here are five female owned independent fashion brands making their mark:
Effortless French-girl fashion and ready-to-wear essentials are the name of the game for Jeu Illimité, a brand recently launched by female artist and entrepreneur Jessie Andrews. With silky A-line dresses and gorgeous 90s mules, Andrews takes a playful spin on Parisian fashion, focusing on carefully crafted minimalist essentials with a modern touch. Although the brand is still relatively new with two collections released so far, Jeu’s ready-to-wear essentials are sure to leave you with a curated range of staples perfect for every modern woman. Take a look at the Cleo A-line Dress and Claudia Knit Top.
Reformation was founded in 2009 by Yael Aflalo, a former model and entrepreneur who sought to challenge fashion’s ecological impact through ethical manufacturing and sustainable materials. Combining eco-friendly fabrics with unique designs and pieces, Reformation’s mission is to “lead and inspire a sustainable way to be fashionable” with a fraction of the environmental impact of conventional fashion. In a world of fast fashion brands with high turnover and low sustainability, Reformation is a refreshingly conscientious brand with taste to match—featuring killer designs that aren’t going to kill the environment. My favorite pieces are the Teddy Coat, Fawcett Jean, and Wilder Dress.
Réalisation is the independent fashion brand dedicated to the “dreamgirl”, whose dreamy dresses have taken over Instagram in the recent months. Founded by girl bosses Alexandra Spencer and Teale Talbot, Réalisation arose from the “collective mindset of the inspiring women around us” and aims to inspire confidence in the women who wear their clothing. Each Realisation piece is intended to be an addition to your own personal style, and you likely won’t want to stop wearing these effortless pieces. Check out the Alexandra Star Dresses and the Christie Dress in Wild Cherry.
Above Average Studio
Founded by Sarah Dunn in the fall of 2016, Above Average Studio is a Toronto based brand of affordable, high quality jewelry pieces including styles in both gold and silver. Taking a refined approach to jewelry essentials, Above Average Studio designs a variety of hoops, pendants, rings, and other delicate accessories dedicated to the minimalist. Check out the Arcus Pendant and Grand Gold Hollow Hoop.
Loq was dreamed up in 2015 by the creative minds of Keren Longkumer and Valeria Quant, women who had a mutual affinity for “unconventional forms, proportions, and attention to detail”. Originating from opposite sides of the globe, the brand is designed in Los Angeles and made in Spain, with styles inspired by California’s relaxed sensibility and rich colors. Loq’s mission is to redefine classics for the modern day woman, and it certainly achieves a uniquely modern interpretation of female footwear through carefully curated textures, colors, and shapes. Check out the Vale heel and Lazaro boot.
